چکیده

We present a survey of results on the edge disjoint paths problem and re late this problem to the edge disjoint homotopic path and the edge disjoint homotopic cycle problem The latter problem is given a graph G V E embedded on a surface S and closed curves C Ck on S nd necessary and su cient conditions for the existence of pairwise edge disjoint cycles e C e Ck in G so that e Ci is homotopic to Ci for i k We explain that a certain cut condition which is easily seen to be necessary is also suf cient for a fractional solution of the edge disjoint homotopic cycle problem To this end we use a theorem stating that any system of closed curves can be made minimally crossing by Reidemeister moves This establishes a relation between the edge disjoint homotopic cycle problem and the theory of knots

Maximum Edge Disjoint Paths and Minimum Unweighted Multicuts in Grid Graphs

In this paper, we solve in polynomial time the maximum edge disjoint paths problem and the related minimum unweighted multicut problem in grid graphs. Let G = (V,E) be an undirected rectilinear grid and let L be a list of K pairs (source sk, sink tk) of terminal vertices of G. Each pair (sk, tk) defines a net. We assume that sources are on the upper horizontal line, sinks are on the lower horiz...

Efficient algorithms for minimal disjoint path problems on chordal graphs

Disjoint paths have applications in establishing bottleneck-free communication between processors in a network. The problem of finding minimum delay disjoint paths in a network directly reduces to the problem of finding the minimal disjoint paths in the graph which models the network. Previous results for this problem on chordal graphs were an O(| V | | E |) algorithm for 2 edge disjoint paths ...

Finding Disjoint Paths on Edge-Colored Graphs: More Tractability Results

The problem of finding the maximum number of vertex-disjoint uni-color paths in an edge-colored graph (MaxCDP) has been recently introduced in literature, motivated by applications in social network analysis. In this paper we investigate how the complexity of the problem depends on graph parameters (distance from disjoint paths and size of vertex cover), and that is not FPT-approximable. Moreov...

On Fixed-Parameter Tractability of Some Routing Problems

Disjoint Paths is the problem of finding paths between given pairs of terminals in a graph such that no vertices are shared between paths. We analyze fixed-parameter tractability of several new Disjoint Paths-like routing problems motivated by congestion control in computer networks. In one model we are interested in finding paths between k pairs of terminals such that the first edge of each pa...

On Routing Disjoint Paths in Bounded Treewidth Graphs

We study the problem of routing on disjoint paths in bounded treewidth graphs with both edge and node capacities. The input consists of a capacitated graph G and a collection of k source-destination pairsM = {(s1, t1), . . . , (sk, tk)}. The goal is to maximize the number of pairs that can be routed subject to the capacities in the graph. A routing of a subsetM′ of the pairs is a collection P o...
